2-Wire vs 3-Wire Type Pumps

Here's How to Check! Most residential well pumps are typically 2-wire pumps. However, if you notice a control box mounted on the wall near your pressure tank, you likely have a 3-wire pump. 

Quick way to check before calling: 

Look at the area around your pressure tank. If you see a gray or black rectangular box (usually with wires going in and out) mounted on the wall, you have a 3-wire pump. If there is no control box, you most likely have a 2-wire pump.
